My Philosophy

I believe that in order to heal, we first have to understand the factors that led us to where we are.

At some point in our lives, most of us will experience distress brought on by our jobs, financial concerns, conflict with friends and family, questions of personal values and identity, and feelings of uncertainty brought on by global events. Some problems have deeper roots, such as the family environment we grew up in, traumatic experiences across the lifespan, and psychological disorders that have gone undiagnosed.

I help my clients explore how it all fits together.

Our work together will explore the impact of developmental experiences on your current struggles. We will focus on identifying and processing your emotions and understanding how relationships have shaped your experiences. Ultimately, we will identify patterns of thought and behavior that aren't working for you and build new insights and skills to move you toward your goals.

Psychodynamic Therapy

My primary approach to therapy is psychodynamic. Psychodynamic therapy is an evidence-based treatment that focuses on healing through self-understanding. In psychodynamic therapy, you will explore the ways in which your developmental experiences created patterns of responding to the world that are still affecting you today.

Psychodynamic therapy emphasizes naming and expressing feelings that you may not be consciously aware of in order to improve your experience of the world and your relationships with others. As a psychodynamic therapist, I often explore childhood experiences, attachment style, self-esteem issues, how you function in relationships, and the ways in which you defend yourself against uncomfortable thoughts and feelings.

When it is useful for clients, I also incorporate elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
